    Ubisoft catching some flack..

Ubisoft catching a burn from the up coming "Sunset Overdrive". In this video you can see the question is "Will we be able to play as female characters?" And as they answer "Yes" they show a video of a female character dressed like an assassin from assassins creed... Lol

OUTCH! Part of me feels bad for Ubisoft, but another part of me can't help but think "They deserve it."..

I mean Seriously, what kind of stupid ******* makes a game that let's you play online and create your own player character and forgets to put in the ability to play as a woman?... lol

hinting at something?, yes we all want to be who we are, character customization is god among game features because it is the single most foundation that a game can give to gamers' desire to be individual right up there trailed in a close second by costumes to express our fashion self and an incredibly distant third of game strategy which is inherintly one track perfect and does not give much room for individuality in most games that seek ever so dubiously to be the game no one can beat without being the game no one wants to waste time on. soap box over ... for now.

Assassin's Creed was originally made as a single player game with one story - that of a man. In the Assassin's Creed, you could never customize your character. Ubi would have to do extra animation, story line, scripting, voice acting, and graphics in order to compensate for having a female. With the tight deadlines that most publishers urge, it's hard for a studio to do that. Ultimately, Assassin's Creed was never made to be able to let the player "play as themselves."

Sunset Overdrive was made with customization in mind. Most games that have extensive customization (such as Fallout, Elder Scrolls, etc) are also generally open world with quests. However, these games focus on customization first - before the story line even gets there. These games are also usually in development for a lot longer time. Whereas, Assassin's Creed has seemed to become a "once a year" event.

Now, in terms of our game - we're an extremely small studio that had developed the game under Microsoft's funding. Due to deadlines, and lack of development resources, we were not able to make a female character when we launched in Beta on Xbox. We actually have always had plans to have a female Caos, unfortunately, it can't happen until we have funding and resources to do so.

figured his pointing that out was apples and oranges, thats why I am picky as hell about MMOs, character customization is my first selling point, hence the Cryptic engine gets a lot of my attention

I like what Wil Wheaton has to say on the topic... Something all video game producers should take into consideration.. lol

Don't get me wrong, I don't think "ALL GAMES" should have to let you pick your gender at the beginning of the game, but games that go through the trouble of having character customization rather than just saying "You're Mario, Snake, Samus, or some other pre-packaged character." Should have both genders as the first priority to their character creator. If they think they can't do that, then they shouldn't bother with Character Customization...

Do it right, or don't do it at all..

That would be assuming that every company has an infinite number of resources to be able to do that.

Ubisoft is a game where you are given a character, and doesn't have true character customization. The multiplayer component of AC does have female assassins, but once again, none of them are customizable.
I never really saw the argument for Ubisoft not having a female protagonist, since they have made an AC game that did that, and maybe this new AC game doesn't work in their mind to have a female protagonist, and it all depends on how the game is envisioned from the start.

Character customization is a nice thing to have for a game, as it gives some personalization to the player's character, so saying that just because the game doesn't have what you want means that they shouldn't do it? Why? There is absolutely no reason, and even the devs have said that they want to add female caos at some point.
Ascend is in beta, so new things can still be added, and I would not be surprised if they are added one day.

Anyways, no more continuing with the not-so-subtle Ascend focus on the topic, since this topic has been beaten to death, and you have been involved in some of the older discussions, too. You know that Signal is a small team, and that they are focused more on bugs right now, so there is no need to further this discussion.

If you cannot keep the topic on the subject that you put out there for AC, then I'll have to lock it, as there is nothing to be said on the Ascend side of things.
