Spell upgrades poofing

Don't know if there's any remedy but twice I've had full upgrades disappear on me. First was comet after I ascended from dark to light. Then over night I lost all my upgrades on chain lightning. The latter I have spent the souls to upgrade to full again.

That's a huge loss in real money for me since I spent for several large soul packages to get those.

I had upgraded chain lightning to max as soon as I bought it. Next day logged in and had to repurchase every upgrade. In the case of comet, I had upgraded it to max, played several days with no problem but when I ascended I switched from dark to void to purchase black hole. Right after ascending I noticed that comet had reverted to no upgrades. I didn't upgrade comet again, and barely have used it since.

Thankfully I have no problems with the other spells I use that I upgraded to full.
